One person was killed on I-75 in south Atlanta after the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) vehicle, according to a report from 11 Alive. GDOT stated that the vehicle involved in the crash was a Highway Emergency Response Operator (HERO) truck that was being used by workers who were clearing debris from a travel lane when the motorcyclist collided with it.
The accident resulted in the closure of the southbound lanes of the interstate at Northside Drive just before the downtown connector, with travelers being urged to use alternate routes as traffic backed up, including getting off at Howell Mill Road and traveling south to Midtown. The Georgia State Patrol was continuing to investigate the accident at the time of the report. GDOT extended thoughts and prayers to all involved.
