A daycare bus overturned as a result of a head-on crash Thursday morning in DeKalb County. The crash occurred off Flat Shoals Road and Battle Forest Drive, in proximity to the Flat Shoals Elementary School. The bus did not belong to the school district, but was on its way to Childcare Network Daycare when the accident occurred. Four children onboard the bus between the ages of 5 and 11 suffered minor injuries in the crash, and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation. Everyone was reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
In addition to the driver, there were 11 children on the daycare bus when the accident occurred. According to a statement from the Childcare Network Daycare’s corporate office, the families of the children involved in the accident were immediately notified. The other driver involved in the collision was cited for failure to maintain their lane, according to the DeKalb police.
Failure to maintain lane is one of the most common causes of traffic accidents in Georgia, and is often the result of other risky driving behaviors, including alcohol impaired driving or distracted driving. Being convicted of this offense can result in 3 points assessed against the driver’s license and up to $1,000 in fines, in addition to court costs. This offense can occur if a driver drifts into an opposing lane of travel, and also as a result of improper passing.
If you have been injured in an accident that was caused by a driver who failed to maintain a single lane of travel, you can seek compensation for the expenses and impacts of your injury through Georgia’s personal injury claims process.
