Fatal Accident Causes Damage to I-75 Guard Rail, Additional Accidents

An early Tuesday morning single-vehicle accident on southbound I-75 at Langford Parkway in Atlanta resulted in one fatality and caused debris from the broken guard rail to enter the northbound travel lanes and damage other vehicles traveling on the roadway at that time.

As many as eight other vehicles then crashed into the broken guard rail, reportedly suffering damage to their vehicles that ranged from minor to extensive. Among those vehicles were two tractor-trailers, one of which resulted in a fuel leak. The situation resulted in the closure of the southbound lanes for a while so that responders could investigate and remove the debris. Police reported that the male driver in his twenties who initially crashed into the guard rail died as a result of the accident.

According to auto insurance provider Progressive, collisions involving guard rails are often covered by a driver’s collision insurance and if they have medical payments or personal injury protection coverage, injuries to a driver and passenger can also be covered. If it can be shown that the damage was the fault of another driver, that driver’s liability coverage can be accessed to compensate property damage or injuries incurred by others as a result. It is important when being involved in an accident involving a guard rail to alert the police and to remain at the scene until driver and insurance information has been provided for their report.
