Firefighters spraying water on burning car.
A Saturday evening at Lenox Square Mall turned dangerous due to a fire that engulfed two vehicles in the parking garage. According to Atlanta Fire and Rescue, crews were called to the mall by individuals at the Buckhead structure who reported smoke in the garage and a vehicle on fire on the first level. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered that there were actually two vehicles on fire. It took about 20 minutes to extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire department reports that one man suffered injuries, including burns and lacerations to his hands. However, he refused medical treatment at the scene. It is unclear as to whether he sought treatment later on his own. If you have been injured due to an incident caused by someone else’s recklessness, carelessness, or even an intentional act, it is important to accept medical treatment at the scene or to seek medical treatment on your own as soon as possible. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, many wounds are far more serious than they appear. Burns on the palms of the hands, for example, have a high risk of infection and other complications, such as contractures, which result in stiff, constricted muscles that can impair function. Additionally, obtaining medical treatment at the scene provides important documentation of the injury that is needed if you wish to file a personal injury claim to seek compensation for the expenses and impact of your injury, including the cost of medical treatment, wage loss, property damage, and pain and suffering.
