About Pittsburg, GA

The unincorporated community of Pittsburg is located in DeKalb County, Georgia. It was named after Newton J. Pitts, who owned a small country store in the area. The town was established at the intersection of Tucker-Norcross Road and the Chamblee-Tucker Road. Since the early 1800s, the population of Pittsburg has been growing. A quick look at the history of Pittsburg reveals that it was founded by a farmer, and that it became a thriving community.

The city’s population was less than 3,000 in 1960, but that number has been growing fast since the construction of the new Pittsburgh Yards complex. Before the development of the area, most Pittsburgh restaurants offered grilled or smoked meats. Some Pittsburgh spots even serve vegetarian dishes. And there are plenty of places to get a plate of fried chicken. The Pittsburgh Plate is the best option for a casual meal in this vibrant town.

Before the development of the neighborhood, it was home to working-class black Atlantans. The neighborhood hosted several educational institutions, including Clark University, which merged with another school in Atlanta, and several small theological seminaries. It also had a thriving African-American business district known as McDaniel Street. These businesses added to the community spirit in the area. The housing values in Pittsburgh declined due to a “white flight” that took place in the 1940s. Meanwhile, crime rates soared, and Pittsburgh’s reputation began a downward spiral.

The city is a thriving suburb that is zoned to the Atlanta Public School district. The Metropolitan Parkway is one of the main commercial thoroughfares, and Pittman Park is the main entertainment destination for the city. Its history dates back to the 1880s, when the area was mostly African-American. Today, the population of Pittsburgh has grown to about 3,000 people, up from half of its population in 1970.

In the early 1900s, Pittsburgh was primarily home to working-class black Atlantans. It was home to a number of educational institutions, including Clark University, which merged with another Atlanta school. It also had several small theological seminaries. In these days, McDaniel Street is home to black-owned businesses, which boosted the community’s spirit. In the 1950s, the population of the city declined drastically, and many of the neighborhoods were converted into low-income neighborhoods.
