A boating collision in Georgia has left one dead and six injured. The tragic boating accident occurred in the waters of Lake Tobesofkee early Saturday morning. The accident happened when a cigarette boat with two occupants collided with a pontoon boat with seven occupants.
Of the seven people aboard the pontoon boat, one died from a severe head injury; a lady is currently admitted to the ICU in a critical state. And the other five are now recuperating at home. The two occupants of the cigarette boat weren’t injured. They fled the scene after the accident and were apprehended in a nearby house. Authorities continue to investigate what happened leading up to the crash, but they believe that the accident was alcohol-related.
Boating collisions are all too common, and they are usually the result of preventable reasons like alcohol consumption, excessive speed, and reckless boating. While you may take all the necessary precautions, like wearing your life jacket and cruising at reasonable speeds, you will never be able to protect yourself against reckless behavior from others.
Boating accidents leave a long-lasting effect on family and friends for years to come. Some victims are left maimed, while others sadly succumb due to these injuries. It is heartbreaking for people to die or get injured because of foreseen and preventable accidents.
